Acne and Dry Skin – a little moisture can still keep acne bacteria away
JOHN ALEXANDER L. NICOLAS
Many acne advice states that clean and dry skin is important to keep acne bacteria away and clear out excess oil on the face. However, skin that is too dry can still be a problem for getting rid of acne or the scars that are left afterwards.
Temperature is a main factor for dry skinacne as humidity will affect your skin health. During hot weather, dry skin can easily be sun burned and dry skin will automatically mean more sweat and oil to cool down, giving more chance of bacteria to grow. There is little moisture on the skin due to over-drying.
Winter is worse as frost, cold temperatures and indoor heating can easily dry your skin and flaking and itching is more frequent. Skin cracks are an open door for more bacteria and blocked pores. Moisture is little during winter time and ‘cracking’ is a common occurrence for skin health as well.
There are serious cases in regards to dry skin and acne but is still one of the main causes of acne formation. It is important to make sure your skin is naturally moist not only to remove acne bacteria, but others as well and to cool down.
Lotions and creams used after baths or showers is helpful for your skin as pores are already open and still ‘wet’ after the shower. Anything with the natural ingredients of aloe and mineral oils in bath soap or gel form is okay as well. There may be some irritation so check ingredient list.
Your basic acne creams will contain drying agents like Benzoyl Peroxide to deal with acne problems so avoid the high-level ones if drying is serious which is why moisture creams is important. If it does not work, consult with your doctor.
Cosmetics and make up can dry the skin if applied too often so be sure to wash thoroughly and use oil-free toner to clear up within. Wash your face twice a day and drink lots of water, and just as extra, get an air vaporizer to keep your room moisture levels normal during hot weather.
Topical treatments like oral medicines and ointments are suggested, but only if nothing else works. Physicians will normally prescribed cortisone or any cream that will cool down skin and lower inflammation.
What you wear also keeps the skin healthy or not. Cotton clothing can let air be moisture form around the body for both cooling and removing sweat which can dry up faster than water, and trap bacteria causing acne.
Skin drying is good to remove all that excess wet and moisture but its good to keep some moisture or your dry skin becomes an attraction to bacteria and cracking. Not too wet and not too dry makes all the better.
