Sulphur and Zinc are heavy metals needed for the body which help in removing other toxins that create the bacteria that forms acne.
Zinc is commonly used in medicated creams but sulphur is normally in an impure form that is mixed with other chemicals. Water, or the elements that form it, is most common and normally used in spring water.
Regarding sulphur, it is the fourth most abundant element found but most forget that it is important for keratin and collagen in hair and skin cells respectively. Collagen, in particular, is useful in skin repair and pore cleanup so as to remove future acne scarring.
Sulphur for the skin is normally taken in its methyl sufonyl methane (MSM) form. There are health supplements containing this but it is recommended with Vitamin C together. They are also found in some lotions and cleansers like Sulpho-lac Acne Medication and Thermac Lotion. Ensure that lotions will keep the skin moist but liquid cleansers may dry the skin more.
Sulphur with benozyl peroxide lotions can kill the bacteria causing acne while those mixed with resorcinol can reduce blackheads and whiteheads.
Sulphur in the diet is needed to use Vitamin B1 absorbed properly. It is part of a protein compound needed to help break down fats and is added to the bile enzymes in liver, where it absorbs the wastes and drug substances and helps remove it quickly. Leafy vegetables and red meat contain it so high protein is needed.
Sulphur is a naturally occurring element in all plants and animals and also important to avoid skin inflammation and good blood circulation.
Zinc is a heavy metal but just because its supposed to help your acne means you gobble a big amount in one go. Zinc is best with food, or from food. Zinc, however, is still healthy for the skin acts as a good drying agent when put in its oxide form and combined with sulphur (sulphate) also helps with acne and skin care, especially from sun rays.
A lack of zinc in your health also creates more acne because they are used in cell growth, hormone balance and protein breakdown. Glands that overproduce the oily layer on the skin are affected if hormones are not controlled and the acids from the protein will be less if very little is broken down, because zinc was low.
Zinc regulates over 200 forms of hormones. The male hormone Testosterone readily causes acne formation and if that is out of balance, the breakouts will follow.
Zinc is also naturally found in meat and poultry, seafood, whole grains and dairy products. While around 30 to 40 percent is absorbed by body, these foods should still be eaten in controlled amounts. Tablets and supplements in zinc oxide and zinc sulphate are also good but take consideration in natural forms.
For serious case, consider tablets with zinc gluconate and zinc oxide with 200mg (30 mg of zinc) orally per day, but consult with doctor beforehand.
