The ‘best place’ to get acne is where no one can see it. It is true on some level but it does not mean the hidden problem goes away by itself. But imagine if the largest irritating pimple is located on the legs, between your legs and your privates you really need to avoid touching. At least, in public.
Leg acne in question is the same as face, scalp and chest acne: all red, all bumps, very irritating. According to frequent sufferers, the thighs are a main target point, but they can also be elsewhere depending on what you wear and what you do. However, they have a tendency to reappear and disappear either as small whitehead or dry reddened lesions.
The common reasons for acne breakouts on the face (excess oil, dry skin, bacteria, etc.) can relate to leg acne breakout. Another major reason for leg acne is a hereditary disease called keratosis pilaris, a hair-follicle change in which it traps more dirt than it should. It is very rare but for most cases, the real reason is that you don’t wash there thoroughly and sweating is very frequent.
Acne can appear more when the skin is irritating and, therefore, just walking is a cause as the ‘leg rubbing’ movement is irritating if the acne is that high up the legs. This is one reason why it would eventually spread to the pubic area. If tight clothing causes you to sweat underneath, it only grows the bacteria faster in between the legs.
The official term for pubic acne is ‘Hidradentitis Suppurativa’. It is basically the same cause as facial acne; sweat glands blocked and secreting excess oil and sweating environment, causing more bacteria and acne growth. It happens to all ages and mostly because personal hygiene is poor in that area and your current activities make you sweat profusely and your clothes do not allow much ‘breathing room’.
The treatments follow the same procedures for facial acne but with a strong focus on personal hygiene. If doing sports activities take a good shower and soap all the nooks and crannies you can reach. Change clothes twice a day and wear appropriate leg clothing that allows freedom of movement (nothing tight) and underwear that feels good.
Use a good skin moisturizer but don’t put so much in between the legs as it does not feel good when sweat is mixed. Use spot treatment acne creams on the most irritating spots and toners to clean out the red areas. If there is rash involved and the problem does not go away, you know who to turn to.
Pubic acne is the worse so don’t pull off any popping stunts. People have posted that large bumps that are red colored and difficult to pop are full of blood and it will be difficult to ‘apply pressure on that area’ when in public.
